Fr. Chris at General Convention

Today was the joint session to put people into nominations for presiding bishop. We all knew who would be nominated, but it's a parlementary formality.

We were supposed to gather on the dias with Bp. Andrus but he was in the house of bishops when they presented the new bishops.

Today was a crucial game for the USA soccer team against Italy in the World Cup. It was almost sad to see thousands of people going through a long and tedious consent calendar while a small group gathered around a TV in the convention hall. I sat in the house of bishops for awhile watching committee reports and resolutions and followed the action on my phone. With nothing major happening in either house I went to the hotel to watch the game on a bigscreen. I sat with a priest from Virginia who lamented the Episcopal Church's patriotism and self-focus. In almost any other country, he noted, everything would be suspended to watch the nation's team play the beautiful game. But not here. Eddie Pope was getting a red card while deputies were correcting a spelling mistake in a resolution. Oh well.

Tonight there are events honoring Bp. Griswold and House of Deputies President George Werner.

The big excitement of the day for me was running into Nedi Rivera. It was great to talk to her. She says Bob is doing great.
